John Peterson

John "Pete" Peterson, age 82, died peacefully on July 24th, 2023 at home in La Pine, Oregon surrounded by his loved ones.
John was born July 31, 1940, in Duluth, MN. to the late Ardis Hulbert and John W. Peterson.
John is survived by his sister, Robin Norsted; brother-in-Law, Jeff Norsted; niece, Nicole Norsted, and her children, Ellie Heimer & Lauren Heimer; niece, Natalie Tyler, her husband, Chad Tyler, and their children, Addie and Preston Tyler, all of St. Paul, MN.
John is also survived by his step-daughter, Jaqueline Ann Heflin, her husband, Justin Heflin, and their children, Macy, Brady, and Ryan who lovingly called him Grandpa.
John's furry friends, Jake, Maggie, and Lola loved their dad. You could hear John's booming voice for miles when he yelled "MAGGIE" He loved them all so much.
There are too many friends to mention by name, but John cared deeply for all of them. His friendships were based on trust, love, and mutual support.
As a member of the Band of Brothers-La Pine Chapter, he was very involved in serving his community and honoring veterans.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Peterson; his sister, Wren Hulbert, and a special friend, Lupe Gabriel.
John proudly served his country as a member of the US Navy from 1958 to 1978. John retired as a Chief Petty Officer. His last assignment was at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, Ca.
His training as a diesel mechanic (Enginemen) took him to the South Pacific on the USS Jerome and later he boarded the USS Point Defiance for his 1st tour in Vietnam. John kept in touch with many sailors and recruits throughout the years.
After retiring from the Navy, John worked in several fields. He was a Logging Mechanic, a mechanic at a Honda Motorcycle shop, head of the Parts Department at Peterbilt, and a bus driver for the VA.
John "Pete" will be missed by many. He left everyone he met with a smile on their face and love in their hearts.

Memorials in John's honor can be given to the La Pine Band of Brothers
A Celebration of Life will be held Sept. 30th, 2023 at 11 am in the American Legion Hall (52532 Drafter Rd. La Pine, OR 97739) There will be a brunch and social time after the service.
A military burial of John's urn will follow at La Pine Community Cemetery.
