John Palmer Plummer III - affectionately known as Johnny, Johno, or JP - passed away peacefully at his home in Rainier, Washington, on October 25, 2025. Born on January 8, 1956, at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, California, John was the beloved son of John P. Plummer, Jr. and Marcella DeLay Plummer, and the cherished brother of Linda Jane Plummer Smith.
John's early years were shaped by the adventure of military family life. He lived in Hawaii until age six, then moved with his family to Guam, where he spent his elementary years through fourth grade. An active Boy Scout and baseball player, John also loved exploring with his sister and other military kids - riding bikes on abandoned airstrips, sneaking into CB barracks, and even causing the occasional mischief, like accidentally lighting a storeroom fire or starting a small kitchen blaze during an early-morning cooking experiment.
In junior high, the family settled in Windsor, California, where John quickly became known for his easy charm and popularity, eventually being crowned King of Homecoming. By high school, the family had moved again to Brentwood, California, where John played football until an ankle injury sidelined him. True to his resilient spirit, he turned his energy to the theater program, discovering a new outlet for his creativity.
As a young adult, John moved to Tillamook, Oregon, where he started a commercial painting business. It was during this time that he met and married Cindy, and together they welcomed their son, Andrew - the pride of John's life.
Later, John moved to the Oregon City area, where his sister introduced him to her coworker, Jama Jackson. John and Jama soon fell in love and were married, building a life together for 25 years until her passing in 2010. Together, they raised Andrew, filling their home with love, laughter, and plenty of movies - Andrew's room proudly outfitted with a TV, DVD player, and a collection that grew with every birthday and holiday.
Professionally, John's career was as varied as his talents. He worked in restaurants and management before finding his calling as an administrator and regional manager for assisted living and memory care communities. Known for being hardworking and "by the book," John earned respect for his organization, integrity, and dedication to those he served. He never missed a loved one's birthday or holiday call, always making sure the people in his life felt remembered.
Outside of work, John's passions ran deep. Taught to fish by his grandfather, he spent countless days along the Clackamas and Molalla Rivers. His father instilled in him a love of shooting and the importance of safety, and John became a longtime member of the Canby Gun Club, where he competed and later mentored family members in those same traditions. He was also a lifelong and devoted fan of what he proudly declared the only "real NFL team" - the Raiders. His impressive collection of memorabilia and his Raider tattoo stood as proof of his unwavering loyalty. At home, John's heart also belonged to his many pets over the years, especially his beloved kitties, who were constant companions and a source of comfort and joy.
After Jama's passing, John believed his days as a husband were behind him. But life had other plans when he met Martha Parsons. With Martha, John found joy and companionship once again, walking tall with happiness as they built a new chapter of love together.
John is survived by his wife, Martha, and his son, Andrew Curtis Plummer. He will also be remembered with love by his sister, Linda, his extended family, and the many friends and colleagues fortunate enough to know his generous spirit, steadfast nature, and easy laugh.
A remembrance gathering will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the Molalla Masonic Lodge, where John was a proud member and Past Master. There family and friends will come together to honor his adventurous youth, his love of the outdoors, his devotion to family, his Raider pride, and the countless ways he enriched the lives of those around him.
