John Powell Obituary
COLONIE - John "Ed" Powell, 84, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Born in Queens, he was the son of the late Katherine Nikol and John Edward Powell Sr.
Ed was a teacher with Lansingburgh, in Troy, for 34 years, and Academy of the Holy Names for eight years. In his free time, he enjoyed creative, hands-on problem solving, spending time at Saratoga Lake, and being with his family and friends. He was a devout Christian.
Ed was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Jane Powell, of 48 years. Ed is survived by his daughters Hilary Powell, Stacey Kipp, and Christine (Peter) Lilholt; grandchildren, Sarah (Fletcher) Dix, Jessica (Celine) Kipp, Justin Kipp, and Michael (Jenna) Lilholt; great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Caleb Dix.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 23, from 4 to 7 p.m., at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 85 Elm Ave., Delmar. Interment to follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
