John Stanley Romine

Dr. John S. Romine went to be with the Lord on September 30, 2025. He was proceeded in death by Diana, his wife of 64 years, his father Marshall, his mother Gertrude, brothers Bill and Dan and his grandson Andrew. He is survived by his brother Reed and his three children Marshall, Julia and John Jr. He was grandfather to five, great grandfather to 13, but, sadly, he missed the opportunity to meet his great-great granddaughter due in April. He fell in love with the trumpet in high school where he finished runner up in the Illinois state championships and continued to play through college. He joined a dance band where he met Diana who had a fabulous voice. After graduating from Monmouth College pre-med he went on to Northwestern medical school where, after he graduated, he joined the Navy. As a Navy doctor he went to Vietnam with the Marines serving as the commander of a M.A.S.H. unit in the mid 60's. In the early 70's he was assigned to Great Lakes Naval training center where he met Dr. Robert Lehmer. The two of them were resigning their commissions in the Navy to start private practices. Both Robert and John decided to look for an area to set up an orthopedic practice. They both wound up in Farmington, New Mexico and formed Orthopedic Associates. However, he still wasn't finished with his military service. He joined the Army reserve and was called up for Desert Storm in the early 90's and served until the war's end. John also served his community in so many different ways. He taught homework club at his church, he volunteered time monitoring and placing foster children in the CASA program. Once he retired he continued his enjoyment of music here in Farmington playing with the Trumpet Geezers, attending and donating to the San Juan Symphony and supporting music causes throughout San Juan County. He is deeply missed by so many people. There will be a mass for John at St. Mary's on Tuesday, December 16 at 8:30 AM.
