John Rowland, 84, husband of Ellie Flowers Rowland, died Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at his home.
Born May 21, 1940, in Sumter. He was a son of the late George Harris Rowland, Sr. and Maggie Alford Rowland. He was the co-owner of Rowland Warehouse and a member of Calvary Bible Church.
He is survived by his wife of the home; a son, John (Jay) Rowland, Jr. (Maria) of Manning; three daughters, Kim Rowland Malone of Leesville, Heather Rowland Hodge (Cecil, Jr.) of Manning, Kendra Rowland Hoover (Todd) of Sumter; three brothers, George, Daniel and Timmy Rowland, all of Sumter; three sisters, Sarah Knowlton of New Zion, Gulie Frasier and Mary Van Patten of Sumter; his grandchildren, Rachelle Lawrence, Ryan Lawerence, Jon Ashton Hobgood, J.P. Rowland, Wyatt Duke Rowland, Hope Kelly, Hunter Hobgood, Ashley Rae Hodge, Berkley Hoover, Kinlyn Hoover, and Hannah Hoover; and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter Ashley Rae Rowland.
The family will receive friends on Monday, from 12 PM – 2 PM at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home 3001 Waverly Drive.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Monday, in the Chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Harris and Rev. John Hall.
Burial will follow in the Sumter Cemetery.
