John L. Sanchez, a cherished member of the Tucumcari community, passed away peacefully at his residence on November 12, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on August 18, 1949, in Tucumcari, NM, John lived a life marked by devotion, kindness, and numerous accomplishments.
A dedicated parishioner at St. Anne's Catholic Church, John was deeply rooted in his faith and community. He was proud to be a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6937 and a lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans, which reflected his commitment to service and support for his fellow veterans.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During his service, he received several honors, including the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 66 Device, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Army Commendation Medal. His bravery and sacrifice exemplified his character and dedication to the values he held dear.
After completing high school, John pursued further education at Mesalands Community College, where he earned an Associate's Degree. This accomplishment was just one of many that made him a pillar of strength for his family and community.
Known for his love of the outdoors, John enjoyed fishing, arrowhead hunting, and knapping. These hobbies brought him immense joy and allowed him to spend quality time with his loved ones. He often shared tales of his adventures, inspiring those around him with his enthusiasm for life.
John leaves behind a loving family, including his daughter, Janis Marie Bradley, along with his grandchildren, Trevor Bradley and Alexa Isern. His legacy is further carried on by his great-grandchildren, who were a source of immense pride for him. He is also survived by his siblings: Helen Jane Cordova, James Raymond Sanchez, Richard Patrick Sanchez, Lillian Emily Jasper, and Judy Ann Portillo, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and friends who will remember him dearly.
Preceding John in death were his parents, Guadalupe and Mary Stella (Lopez) Sanchez, and his brother, Robert Gerald Sanchez. Their memories lived on in John’s stories and reflections, reminding all who knew him of the importance of family.
Services for Mr. Sanchez are as follows:
Holy Rosary will be Sunday, November 16, 2025 beginning at 6PM at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Tucumcari, NM.
The funeral Mass will begin at 11AM on Monday, November 17, 2025 at St. Anne's with Father Cameron Degani officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow at Tucumcari Memorial Park with Joe Lopez, Trevor Bradley, Frank Cordova, Michael Martinez, Dean Missledine and Joey Romero serving as Pallbearers.

John L. Sanchez will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his commitment to service, and the love he shared with those around him. His spirit and presence will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.
