Henry Sargent, Sr. was born on January 14, 1937, to the late Deacon Johnnie Orange Sargent and Valrie Wiley Sargent in Ellis County,
Texas. He attended public schools in Lancaster, Texas, and graduated in 1955 from Lincoln High School in Dallas, Texas. Following his high school graduation, Pastor Sargent enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1955, where he served honorably as an Air Force Tower Controller.
His service took him to Germany, France, New York, and Mississippi before
his honorable discharge on November 20, 1958.Shortly after completing his military service, he met and married Ms. Bessie Favors on August 19, 1959. Their union, filled with love and devotion, spanned sixty-five years and was blessed with five children. They celebrated their milestone wedding anniversary shortly before Pastor Sargent's passing. In 1960, Pastor Sargent gave his life to Christ and became a member of the Temple of Truth Church of God in Christ. He often remarked that moving next door to the church was one of the best decisions he ever made, as he
could hear the music as if it surrounded him.
His dedication to his faith was evident early on, serving as a Sunday School Teacher and later as Sunday School Superintendent. In 1972, he accepted his divine calling to preach the Word of God. Three years later, he was promoted to Assistant Pastor at the Temple of Truth Church of God in Christ, a position he held for over thirteen years. In 1999, following the passing of the late Pastor Zebedee Favors, Pastor Sargent was elevated to Pastor of the Temple of Truth Church of God in Christ. Throughout his ministry, Pastor Sargent also served in the Waxahachie
District as Evangelist President, working under the leadership of the late Superintendent Andrew Ingram and the late First Lady Gwendolyn
Ingram. Later, under Superintendent W.E. Roberts, he continued to serve with distinction. After Superintendent Roberts' passing, Pastor Sargent
was promoted in 2003 to Assistant Superintendent in the W.E. Roberts Memorial District, serving under the late Superintendent J.T. Taylor, Jr., and most recently under Superintendent Tommy H. Taylor.
On December 2, 2024, Pastor Sargent entered into eternal rest, leaving a legacy of faith, service, and love. Pastor Sargent was preceded in death by his parents, Deacon Johnnie O. Sargent and Valrie Wiley-Sargent; his brother, Mr. James W. Sargent; his
sisters, Mrs. Jean Esther Majors, Mrs. Johnnie Cartwright, Mrs. Reannie Scott, and Mrs. Ossie Lewis; and his grandson, Mr. Bryant Piper.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 65 years, Mrs. Bessie Favors-Sargent of Dallas, Texas; three daughters, Renotta Smith of Lancaster, Texas, Johnnie Ellis (Robert) of Glenn Heights, Texas, and Rita White of Dallas, Texas; and two sons, John H. Sargent, Jr. (Kim) of Dallas, Texas, and Minister Gregory Sargent, Sr. (Frances) of Las Colinas, Texas.
He is also survived by two sisters, Louise Jones and Barbara McClanahan, both of Dallas, Texas; three brothers, Joshua Sargent of Woodbridge, Virginia, Pastor M.E. Sargent (Cynthia) of Dallas, Texas, and Rev. N.C. Sargent (Toy) of Desoto, Texas. His legacy extends to fourteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, friends, and his beloved Temple of Truth Church family.
Pastor Sargent's unwavering faith, commitment to his family, and lifelong dedication to God's service will forever be remembered.

My first encounter with Pastor Sargent occurred several years ago. His daughter Sister Rita. She invited me to attend a particular service at your father´s church. Equally, she invited me to several visiting churches where her father delivered the message. I perceived him as astute, sacred, and sincere in his walk with the LORD. He fathered and raised a beautiful daughter and family with his loving and caring wife. Note: The first post was from my cellphone. I felt compelled to correct the post accordingly.
