Born in Cleveland, OH on Dec 5, 1925 Mr. Senger was raised in Lake County amid the Great Depression. Despite the hardships of that time, his memory of those years was cherished throughout his life. His lifelong interest in aviation was sparked when a "barnstormer" made an emergency landing in a nearby cornfield. This event led to the eventual establishment of what is now known as Lake County Executive Airport, where he later achieved his pilot's license.
As a forty year employee of TRW, Inc. He served in manufacturing management positions at facilities in Euclid, OH, Cleveland, OH, and Danville, PA.
A U.S. Navy combat veteran of WWII he was awarded four battle stars for actions in the western Pacific. During the Okinawa campaign
Mr. Senger participated in the invasion and capture of Kerama Rhetto, a small group of islands fifteen miles west of Okinawa. This bold move occurred a full week prior to D-Day at Okinawa.
During the Korean War Mr. Senger was a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserve but not called to active duty.
In 1986 Mr. Senger retired to the southwest coast of Florida to pursue his many and varied interests.
Family was of utmost importance to him and he will be remembered with love by all.
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion Post 103 in Punta Gorda, Florida and American Legion Perry Memorial Post 697 in Perry, Ohio
He was son of Albert A. and Ada L. (Baumgardner). He is survived by daughters Linda L. Baron (Lindy) and Carol "Coco" F. Pike, grandsons Jeremy Coiner, William B. Baron (Emily) and James A. Baron (Jenn), great grandchildren Addie, Annabelle, Alex and Avelyn, nieces and nephews, and son in law Bernell Baron Jr.
Services on April 24 are private wake at Behm Family Funeral Home, Mass of Christian Burial at St. Cyprian Church at 11:00 and burial at Western Reserve Cemetery.
Family suggests donations to the Rainy Day Fund at St. Cyprian Church or Home For Our Troops, Inc.
