John R. Shiflet

MOUNT SOLON – John Ralston Shiflet, 91, of Mount Solon, passed away Thursday (August 1, 2024) in Sunnyside Healthcare Center.
Born February 17, 1933 in Malden, Missouri, he was the son of the late Rev. Paul Ralston Shiflet and Bessie Isabell (Powell) Shiflet.
John graduated from North River High School and was a life-long farmer. He owned and operated Glade Run Farm and John R. Shiflet & Sons. Later he acquired Shiflet Shop Farm and Buck & Doe Ridge. He was a member of Spring Hill Presbyterian Church where his father served as pastor for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine (Daniel) Shiflet. Surviving are four sons, Steven Ralston Shiflet and wife Kyra of Mt. Solon, Julian Reid Shiflet and wife Lori of Mt. Solon, Alan Dale Shiflet and wife Dora of Bridgewater, and Timothy Long Shiflet of McGaheysville; a sister, Jane Rexrode of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on August 10 in the chapel of Bear Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Todd Lilley. The family will receive friends in the funeral home following the memorial service.
