John Edwin Sim Jr.

John E. Sim, passed away March 28, 2025, age 74. Devoted husband to Karen, father to Rabbi Caroline Sim and Alec Sim, John will be missed by his siblings (Valerie Scheffler, Susan Raley, Mary Jane Paterniti, and Joe Sim), Isaac M. Wise Temple community, and his men's group. John was a personally and professionally accomplished man whose life was defined by his unwavering commitment to his family and his service to his community.
Born on May 10, 1950 to parents Jack and Valeria (nee Biniewski) Sim in Buffalo, NY, John excelled academically and athletically, becoming high school valedictorian as well as captain of the baseball, football, and basketball teams. His photographic memory and sports accomplishments led him to Cornell University, where he met his future wife and best friend. His myriad interests were well-served at college, but he ultimately pursued neurobiology. John started his career in wholesale chemical sales, eventually becoming an industry leader as the head of specialty chemicals for a global pharmaceutical and industrial chemicals company.
A man of great spirit, John will be remembered for his big laugh, usually after one of his own jokes. A cigar aficionado, grill master, and avid golfer, John took great pride in his garden and Karen's volunteerism. John spent his retirement as an incredible mentor and guide in the local community. He was able to listen, care, and communicate with ease, helping innumerable individuals through their most difficult chapters. This may be his greatest legacy.
John's memorial service will be held at Isaac M. Wise Temple, 8329 Ridge Avenue Cincinnati, Ohio 45236 at 1:00PM Monday, March 31, 2025 with visitation beginning at 12:15PM. Services will be live streamed https://www.wisetemple.org/worship/live-stream/
Shiva will be observed on Monday and Tuesday evening at the Sim Residence from 6:30-8:00PM.
