John Smalling Obituary
Born on October 28, 1947, in Athens, TN, John Allen Smalling was a proud Army veteran who honorably served his country. He carried the values of courage, loyalty, and sacrifice from his military service into every aspect of his life. As a devoted husband and father, John spent a lifetime providing for the well-being of his family.
John and LeAnne were long time members of Cokesbury United Methodist Church and the Pathfinders Sunday School Class. John was especially thankful for his Promise Keepers men's group. His Faith was demonstrated by word and action.
John is survived by his beloved wife, LeAnne; his children Amy and Alex; daughter in law Shea; and his grandchildren Tanner (Nicole), Grayson and Reed. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Rev. James and Blanche Smalling, and his brothers Webb and Bill.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, January 18th at Cokesbury United Methodist Church (South Campus), 9908 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37922. John will be laid to rest with full military honors at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Susannah's House https://app.aplos.com/aws/give/SusannahsHouseInc/ or The Connection Center at Cokesbury United Methodist Church.
John's legacy of love, service, and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Is this same John Smalling that served with the Americal Division-198th Infantry Brigade (LZ Bayonet) 1969-1970? I roomed with John for 10 months. I have many stories and photos to share with his family-Dave McClung [email protected]
