John "Buddy" William Smith, age 78, an Atoka, OK resident. He was born on Saturday, November 2, 1946, to Omar G. and Nella Mae (Moon) Smith, at Sherman, TX. Buddy passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025 at Sherman, TX. He attended Stringtown Public Schools, Oklahoma City Public Schools, and then Tushka Public Schools. Buddy was a Dairy Farmer. He also did concrete work and pipeline surveying. He married Margie Oline (Perry) on Tuesday, September 21st, 1965 at McKinney, TX. They have cherished the 59 years of marriage spent together before his passing. Buddy attended Cross Spur Cowboy Church in Sulphur Springs, TX, where he was baptized. He enjoyed eating beans and cornbread, fishing, hunting, especially coon hunting, and golfing. He liked going to auctions, junk sales, and garage sales. Buddy had a tendency to argue. He loved to spend time with his family, grandkids, and of course, his golf cart. Buddy enjoyed spending time with his sister before she passed. His motto was "I Live to Eat, not Eat to Live."
Buddy is survived by his wife, Margie Oline Smith of the home in Atoka, OK; children, Ray Smith and wife Charlotte of Sulphur Springs, TX, Trish Wilson and husband Jerry of Dike, TX, Darlene Simpson and husband Jerry of Atoka, OK, Beverly Thomas of Atoka, OK, Michelle Taylor and husband Dennis of Atoka, OK, Russell Smith and wife Tamara of Sulphur Springs, TX, 19 GRANDCHILDREN; 31 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN; brother, Michael Smith of Atoka, OK; aunt, Margaret Dodson of Emory, TX; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear and loved friends.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Omar G. and Nella Mae (Moon) Smith; daughter, Deborah Diane Smith; granddaughter, Tiffany Taylor; sisters, Wanda Harper, Helen Perry, Brenda Yarbrough, Diann Perry, Pamela Keys; brother, Jimmy Lee Smith.
