John Jay Taylor, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on August 17, 1944, in Highland Park, Michigan, John's life was a testament to his unwavering faith, his dedication to family, and his passion for serving both God and community.

John's journey began as the beloved son of Ray and Gladys Taylor and grew up alongside his siblings Robert, Janet, Ray, and Donna. He attended Lapeer High School, where he graduated in 1963, laying the foundation for a life of diligence and commitment. John's early sense of responsibility and love for his country was evident when he served in the Army, stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, before completing his service in Germany and being honorably discharged in 1966.

Upon returning home, John's heart led him to his lifelong love, Joyce Marie Solak. They were united in marriage on December 26, 1964, and together they raised a family that would include their children Rachelle, Douglas, and Michael. John's role as a family man was one he cherished deeply, and the legacy he leaves in his children and their families, including eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, is one of love, laughter, and the importance of family bonds. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Gladys, siblings Ray and Donna.

John's professional life was marked by a 40-year tenure at General Motors in Pontiac, where he worked as a pipe fitter from 1967 until his retirement in 2007. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident to all who knew him, and his contributions to the company were deeply valued.

A devout Christian, John was an active member of the Lapeer and Otisville Church of Christ for over 60 years. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and interactions with all. John's generosity, humor, and kindness were the embodiment of the Christian spirit, touching the lives of many within his church community and beyond.

John's interests were as rich and varied as his character. A skilled woodworker, he built his own house, a labor of love and a testament to his talent and perseverance. His adventurous spirit shone through in his love for riding his motorcycle, feeling the freedom of the open road and the wind in his face.

Cremation had taken place, and a private memorial service will be held. Arrangements entrusted to Jansen Family Funeral Home – Columbiaville. Memorial contributions in memory of John may be made to either of the churches he attended. Share condolences, pictures, and stories with the family online at www.jansenfuneralhome.com.
