John J. Turner, Jr. of West Bridgewater passed away surrounded by family on January 11, 2024. He was 80 years of age
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of over 50 years Roberta (Ginn) Turner, his daughter Dawn Peterson and her husband Brent of Pembroke, and his granddaughter Abigail Peterson. He was born in New Hampshire to the late John and Margrite (Roberts) Turner.
John loved above all else spending time with Berta, Dawn, Brent and granddaughter Abigail. Family was everything to John. Hardly a day went by that we didn't hear him call "BERTA!". The light of his life was his granddaughter Abby, often taking her for golf cart rides and slipping her five or ten dollars "just because". His smile was never bigger than when he enjoyed time with "his girls".
John enjoyed his retirement traveling and camping at Peter's Pond in Sandwich as he loved spending time with his pond family. Whether it was playing cards, riding around in the golfcart to visit all his friends, sitting around a fire or holding "court" on his deck, he was happy. John always looked forward to meeting the coffee group at Market Basket, going out to dinner, tinkering in his garage, going to the dump and keeping a beautiful yard. He was a great teacher, spending time with Dawn making sure she knew how to maintain a home. If anyone ever needed help with a project, John was always there and ready to assist. He was proud to be a great neighbor to all.
Earlier in life, John was known for providing haircuts to his friends as he was an accomplished master barber. He earned the nickname "Feathers" as he spent many years raising chickens in his back yard and was an active member of the New England Bantam Club. John was a proud fifty-four year 32nd degree Mason with the Paul Revere Masonic Lodge as well as a Shriner. Prior to retirement, John was employed for over forty years as a laborer for Bay State Gas Company (now NISOURCE) and took great pride in the work he did on the patch truck.
