John Joseph Vargo
Passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family at the age of 91. John was a lifelong resident of Horseheads. The son of John and Mary (Fiala) Vargo, he is survived by son John Joseph Vargo, II, MD (Mary) of Pepper Pike, OH; daughter Karen Anne Vargo Cook, of Tallahassee, FL; grandsons John Joseph Vargo, III (Shannon) of Washington Park, CO, Kevin Gregory Vargo (Elizabeth) of Norfolk VA, Matthew Gabriel Vargo, of Pepper Pike, OH, Alexander Bradley Cook, of Chillicothe, OH, Thomas Chiles Cook, of Oklahoma City, OK, Andrew Michael Cook, of Tallahassee, FL, as well as several nieces and nephews. His recently deceased loving wife Mary Kathyrn Lynott Vargo, and son Michael William Vargo, remain in our hearts and are now reunited with Dad in heaven.
John was a division manager of the Electrolux Corporation and later the owner of A&W Construction, Inc. An avid outdoorsman and gardener, John's favorite pastimes were spending family time at the cottage and trout fishing on Cayuga Lake. He was a United States Army veteran and an AAU wrestling champion in his earlier days. John was a communicant of St. Mary Our Mother parish.
The family will receive loved ones and friends at Sullivan's Funeral Home, 365 E. Franklin St. at Rt. 13, Horseheads, NY on Friday April 25, 2025 from 11 AM to1 PM. A committal service for the family will be held thereafter at St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery, Horseheads, NY, at 3 PM. The family wishes to thank John's circle of friends who provided so much support over the past few years, as well as his caregivers at Anna Maria of Aurora, in Aurora, OH.
