In Loving Memory of John Allen Vincent
July 2, 1939 - May 13, 2025
Alpine, Utah
John Vincent passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025, in Highland Glen Care Center in Highland, Utah, at the age of 85 after battling Alzheimer's and Dementia for several years.
John was born in Glenns Ferry, Idaho, on July 2, 1939, to Stella Allen Blackwell and Hurd Stahl Vincent. He spent most of his young life in Boise, attended Boise High School where he lettered in football as center, and worked with his family building many homes and buildings in the Boise area.
In 1956 John met the love of his life, Kay Newman. They dated for 4 years and were sealed on July 26, 1960 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together, they built a joyful life spanning 65 years. Their early married life was spent in Pocatello Idaho where John was attending Idaho State University studying to be an architect. He graduated in 1964 and moved shortly thereafter to Salt Lake City where he joined the architectural firm of Snedaker, Budd, and Watts.
John was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He learned to love the gospel from his mother Stella and had the opportunity to baptize his father Hurd. He was active his entire life and served in many callings. Most notably- the best scout leader in all of Utah where he helped many young men achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, including his 3 sons. As a leader he was one of the boys always participating in the juvenile fun.
John started his own business in 1978 when he left his previous firm and won many awards for his creativity. He had a long list of return clients whom he worked with for many decades. John also brought his two sons, Jeff and Brent, into the firm at a very young age and tutored them in the architectural profession. His company is still alive and thriving today with the third generation getting ready to take over the reins. His youngest son, Shawn, had a career in the US Air Force.
John loved the outdoors with camping, fishing, hunting, and golfing being his favorite. He passed that love onto his children and grandchildren. He never missed the opening of duck season, pheasant season, and deer season up until his mid forties. His family all remembers picking the buckshot out of their pheasant dinner and the time spent butchering the trophy deer.
John stayed close to his family, and we had many vacations together with cousins, grandparents, and friends. The big event of the year for dad was the Allen Family Reunion, which he refused to miss. He even threatened to not attend the wedding of Brent because it fell on the family reunion.
John had a wonderful sense of humor and everyone wanted to be around him. He was the king of jokes, always having one up his sleeve to bring joy and laughter until his stroke in 2011 when his sense of humor was destroyed as an effect of his stroke. He still loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family was his life long focus and he would sacrifice just about anything for family. Even though the ravages of the stroke and dementia took a toll on him the week before he passed away in the care center he bragged about how cute his great-grandchildren were to anyone and everyone who would listen.
John is survived by his loving wife, Kay, and their three boys and their wives: Jeffery (Lori), Brent (Lorri), and Shawn (Amanda). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Ryan, Tyler, Ashley, Alex (Jeff and Lori), Chelsey, Jonathan, Katie, Joshua, Matthew (Brent and Lorri), Paige, Cameran, Addison (Shawn and Amanda) and 18 great grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his parents Stella and Hurd Vincent, his sister Emeline Jasperson and his brother Paul Blackwell.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who cared for John in his final days. Our sincere appreciation goes to Highland Glen Care Center for their gentle care, especially Amy and Maria, who helped him through his difficult last days and to Christine from Suncrest Hospice. Thank you for your tenderness and love to dad.
