John A. Vogl, Harrington, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at his home, he was 79.
John was born in Dover, DE to the late Frances and Ernest Vogl Sr.
John worked for many years in civil service as an Aircraft Mechanic at the Dover Air Force Base after completing his 4 year service with the United States Air Force. He served two tours during the Vietnam War and one tour in the first Gulf War, something he held with pride. John was a hard worker, whether tinkering in his garage, being a mechanic, or woodworking. He was incredibly handy and could build or fix just about anything.
If he wasn’t in his garage or taking particular care of his lawn and landscaping, he could be found going around to yard sales and antique stores, since he was an avid collector of unique items; and everything had its place when he brought home his treasures. He also enjoyed going out for lunch with his classmates and family.
While he could be described as tough and stubborn with a one-track mind, he loved his family dearly; especially his grandsons, who would keep track of how many times he said, “Gosh almighty!” His unique vocabulary will always be remembered.
John is survived by his children, Michel Vogl (Dan), Shauna Porter (Greg); siblings, Anthony Vogl, Ernest Vogl Jr. (Cathy); and his grandsons, Kasen Porter, and Kade Porter.
A graveside will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Hollywood Cemetery in Harrington, DE, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wounded Warrior Project.
