John Harry Weaver

John Harry Weaver, residing in Manor Township for the last five years, passed away surrounded by those he loved and family on March 11, 2026, to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. John was born in Elmira, New York on August 15, 1946, to H. Carl Weaver and Kathryn V. Gehr Weaver. Returning to his ancestral Lancaster County, he lived at his family home, Stone Cliff in Strasburg Township for most of his life.

John’s first love is his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, attending St. Michael’s, Lutheran Church, and the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. Following graduation from Lampeter-Strasburg High School, he attended Oxford Academy, Pleasantville, New Jersey and Potomac State University.

John’s second love and passion was horses, which started at age 10 with a Shetland pony. His professional career with horses began in 1967 at Greystone Manor Stables, a nationally recognized Saddlebred stable, which was followed by employment in Ohio at another Saddlebred stable. He continued in the horse industry, racing standardbred sulky at Syl King Stables and his own, John H. Weaver stables. John ended his career training horses and teaching horsemanship. Also, John assisted with 4H horse clubs, horse show judging and Greystone Manor Therapeutic Riding Center.

John was a faith-filled, authentic, loyal and dutiful gentleman. He lived his life and accord with his faith, accepted all people as they were and was not judgmental. He studiously read the Bible and attended Sunday worship without fail. His authenticity manifested itself in enthusiasm with contagious belly laughs and the broadest of smiles. He lived his life simply being the least materialistic person to a fault. John had such love, commitment and devotion to the horses he trained, and the clients that he taught. He emphasized to his clients and developed with them a relationship with their horses. He was generous with to all he dealt with particularly clients, trying to accommodate for their financial abilities with reasonable fees. John always displayed manners to all he encountered, which he learned at the knee of his father.

In all the years John lived with Parkinson’s disease and recently with terminal esophageal cancer, he never complained. His heart was filled with so much love that he frequently offered assistance, though he was physically incapable.

Surviving are John’s brothers and sister, K. Anne Weaver Lengacher, wife of Art Jr. (deceased) Gordonville, C. Michael Weaver, Esquire, Strasburg, David Gehr Weaver, husband of Barbara, Oak Island, North Carolina, nephews Tim Weaver, Daniel Weaver and Carl Weaver.

John’s beloved companion of 25 years, Kathy Steinmetz, along with Kass Steinmetz provided unequal care and love to John for the last five years. They were loved by John and became his earthly angels and family. The Weaver family is grateful and appreciative of their presence in John’s life.

A funeral service will be held Friday, 20 March 2026, 11 A.M. at Ascension Lutheran Church, 600 E. Penn Grant Rd., Willow Street, PA 17584, with The Rev. Maureen L. Seifried officiating. The family will greet visitors from 10 to 11 A.M. prior to the service. Interment will be at Longenecker Reformed Mennonite Cemetery.
