With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, John Norman Welsh, Jr. Known affectionately as Norm to all who knew and loved him, he departed this world on June 14, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and compassion. Born on September 19, 1938, in Philadelphia, PA, Norm was a constant beacon of warmth and kindness to all who were fortunate to cross his path. His unwavering commitment to his family and friends was tangible, and he made it a point to always put their needs before his own.
Norm was a reliable man of many talents. He spent his career as a Tool and Die maker, where his dedication and hard work were well known. Upon retirement, he remained an active individual, channeling his love for nature and the outdoors into hobbies like fishing, bird watching, and shooting. He also found solace in the simple joys of life, like watching movies and sports, especially the Phillies and Eagles, reading, and playing cards. Norm was an esteemed member of the F. A.& M. William L. Elkins Lodge 271 & Joseph H. Brown Lodge 751, where he found a deep sense of fraternity and brotherhood. His Masonic Brothers held a special place in his heart, and he truly relished the time spent with them.
Norm is survived by his devoted wife, whom he met at 8 years old, Lucia Welsh, with whom he shared nearly 65 years of marriage. He was a loving father to John Welsh, III, Lisa (Rick) Keough, and Jessica Welsh. His spirit lives on in his grandchildren, Jennifer Bartie and Brian Flynn, and his great-grandchildren, Delaney Bartie and Amelia Marciano. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Eleanor Irwin, and his sister, Janice Hetrick.
Friends and loved ones are invited to remember and celebrate Norm's life. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at Lambie Funeral Home, 8000 Rowland Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19136. A Masonic Service will follow at 10:30 am, and a Memorial Service to honor his life will commence at 11:00 am. Norm will have his cremains interred in Hillside Cemetery with US Army Honors.
Norm's engaging spirit and memorable personality touched many lives. We encourage you to share your favorite memories and upload photos to the memorial page as a way of commemorating and celebrating the life of this remarkable man.
