John Davisson Williams died peacefully at his home in Southbury, CT on Friday, June 16, 2023. He was born in Manhasset, New York on April 13, 1961, the son of Douglass Bailey Williams, Jr and Martha Elizabeth and spent his youth in Ho-Ho-Kus and Ridgewood, New Jersey. He attended Ridgewood High School and Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA and Wake Forest University. He spent most of his life adult life in Charlottesville, Virginia at his beloved home Highcroft Farm before moving to Connecticut in 2020.
John excelled at math, astronomy and chess at an early age. He enjoyed baseball (his favorite team was the NY Mets), numismatics and theology. His biblical knowledge was extensive. He loved music, especially the Beatles.
John was predeceased by his parents, Douglass and Martha Williams and step-father R.A. Stuart Miller; a younger sister, Sarah Williams Haj Hariri and a half brother, Douglass B. Williams III. He is survived by his younger sister Martha Greer (Williams) Morley and her husband John of Ridgewood, NJ; brother Philip Despard Williams and his wife Amy of New Canaan, CT'; brother-in-law Dr. Hossein Haj Hariri of Columbia, SC; step-sister Fiona (Miller) McNamara of Mahwah, NJ and step-brother Jeremy Miller of James Creek, NSW, Australia; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
John will always be remembered for his congenial soul, sly wit, love for animals, love for his family and friends, his unwavering faith and his deep intelligence. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a 16th generation descent of Jamestown, VA and a direct descendant of ancestors who fought in the American Revolution.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 21st at St. Bartholomew's Church in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ at 11am. Burial will be private at Valleau Cemetery in Ridgewood, NJ. Donations in John's name can be made to the Fluvanna County SPCA in Troy, Virginia.
