John Joseph Wood

John Joseph Wood, age 64 of Haslett entered into eternal rest, Thursday, March 23, 2023 surrounded by loved ones.
John was born August 7, 1958 in Lansing, Michigan to Robert E. and Mary Ellen (Early) Wood, Sr. He graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1977. A lifelong resident of Ingham County, John worked for his family's business; Wood's Okemos Marathon beginning at the age of 13. He was never a stranger to hard work and knew the value of serving the community in which he lived. He remained the owner and operator of the station until his semi-retirement in 2014. A faithful supporter of St. Martha Parish and lifelong member of Resurrection Church, he found comfort in the eternal life which awaits each of us. He loved holidays spent with family and friends, especially Christmas and Thanksgiving. He was quick-witted and always had a great story to share to get everyone laughing. John was known to take care of everyone, whether it be family or someone who needed an extra hand; he was there. He left his family and friends with many great memories throughout his life; including time spent at his cottage at Torch Lake. He built a legacy of honesty, friendship, compassion, and a strong faith.
John is survived by his siblings, Katherine A. Wood of East Lansing, James W. (Julie) Wood of Haslett, and Susan M. Canen of Laingsburg; brother-in-law, Steven G. Knape of Holland; nieces and nephews, Andrew R. Wood, Noah R. Wood, Caleb J. Wood, Lisa M. Canen, Mary Emma (John) LaCross, Elizabeth (Michael) Curcio, Stephen (Andrea) Knape, and Kristin L. Wood; many great nieces and nephews, his dear friends the Dowling family and Janice Beals and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Robert E. Wood, Jr. and M. Eileen Knape, and brother-in-law, Bradley D. Canen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at St. Martha Catholic Church, 1100 W. Grand River Ave., Okemos, MI 48864. Interment immediately following at Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 27, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM with a Rosary prayer at 7:00 PM at the church as well as one hour prior to the Mass on Tuesday.
