It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Johneicie Gibson Jackson, affectionately known as "Neecie", age 73, on September 5, 2025. A devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, she touched countless lives with her wisdom, kindness, and unwavering compassion.
Born on March 28, 1952 in Asheville NC, Neecie dedicated her life to education, She was a proud graduate of the 1970 class of T.C. Roberson High School where she was nominated for the homecoming court. While attending Livingstone College, she also earned a spot as a homecoming court nominee during her time there. Her commitment to her students and her passion for learning left a lasting mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a revered educational pioneer within the Buncombe County School system,and also the Asheville City Schools ,While at Valley Springs she was instrumental in creating opportunities for students to visit historical landmarks, such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthplace and memorial site in Atlanta, GA. She always strived for the youth to know their history and cultural roots. Additionally, one of her most proud moments was authoring the inspirational children's book entitled, "Heeson's Arrival" that focused on the love of God and how special our arrival into the world is to God. Neecie's love for literacy and education continued to shine brightly with the "Real Need to Read" youth summer camp held at the Shiloh Friendship Center. She carried the same devotion into her family life, where she was a guiding light, a source of encouragement, and a pillar of strength.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny Gibson, Lucille Johnson, Andrew Edney, Geraldine Edney; her beloved husband, John Vance Jackson of Burnsville NC, with whom she shared a life full of love and partnership. Together, they created a legacy of family, faith, and perseverance. Also preceded in death by her siblings, Sherron E Love and Johnny Gibson.
Neecie is survived by her children Coti Jackson, and Sedrick Jackson; siblings ,Hollis E Pearce of Forestville, MD (James), Brenda D. Ellis, James Edward Gibson of Detroit MI, Wanda E. McMillan of
Asheville, NC, Cynthia Foster of Charlotte, NC, Patricia Nelson of
Asheville, NC; cherished grandchild, Jercovi Jackson and special grandchildren, Jordan Ray, Javion Sanders,and Kaige Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will remember her warmth, generosity, and grace.
A service to honor her life will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025 1:30 PM at Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church, with a repast to follow at the Shiloh Friendship Center. Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of a life beautifully lived.
Her legacy will live on in the lives she touched, and she will be remembered always for her love, strength, and unwavering spirit.
