Johnny Lee Curry
Johnny Lee Curry, age 82, of Bangs went to his heavenly home on Saturday, July 22, 2023.
Graveside services with Masonic Rites for Johnny will be at 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Bangs Cemetery, with Bro. Bill Slaymaker officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 8:00 pm, Tuesday evening, July 25, 2023. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Johnny was born in the community of McDaniel on December 1, 1940, to Johnnie and Verta (Roberts) Curry. At age 12, he moved to Brookesmith with his grandparents, Ed and Beaula Roberts, where he later graduated from Brookesmith High School. He lived in Brown County his entire life. Johnny married his soulmate Byrlene (Drury) Curry, on August 20, 1960. The two celebrated 59 years of marriage. They had three children: Johnny Jr., Terrie, and Pamela, all of whom live in Bangs.
Johnny was a devout Christian and watched his preaching each morning without fail; he was happy to share his beliefs with anyone who would listen. Johnny worked hard his whole life including jobs at Rock River Woolen Mills and Bob's LP Gas. He was a very generous man and would give anyone the shirt off his back. Johnny was known for having the largest old tractor collection around. He enjoyed fixing them up in his spare time or helping others with parts and advice.
Johnny became a Master Mason in 1971, at Rocky Creek Masonic Lodge which he helped build. He recently received his 50-year pin for being a Master Mason. The thing he was proudest of was being a husband, Daddy, and Papa.
He is survived by his children, Johnny Curry Jr. and wife LouAnn, Terrie Hailey, Pamela Pannell and husband Wayne; granddaughters, Ginny and Jacey Pannell, Katherine and Abigail Hailey, and Eddie Wells; sister, Odessa Moore and husband Vernon; brother-in-law, Larry Drury and wife Celia; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Johnny was preceded in death by his wife, Byrlene Curry; parents, Johnnie and Verta Curry; brothers, Darvin and Sammy Curry; sister, Lenda Wash; and grandparents, Ed and Beaula Roberts and, Oscar and Bessie Curry.
Johnny's humor, quick wit, and the twinkle in his eye will be missed greatly by all.
