Johnny Webb Mullinax, 69, was a lifelong resident of Northwest Georgia, passed away on March 14, 2025. Born on May 31, 1955, to the late Joyce Cureton and John Mullinax.
Johnny spent 35 years working at Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park, where he became well known as the operator of the Cannon Ball wooden roller coaster. His love for the park and its visitors earned him the affectionate nickname, the Cannon Ball Man. Generations came to know and trust him as he carefully operated one of the park's most beloved rides.
Beyond his career at Lake Winnie, Johnny was a talented handyman who could fix anything, from cars to homes and everything in between. His natural skill with tools ran in the family, as his grandfather was a carpenter and his father was a mechanic. Johnny carried on that tradition with pride, becoming the go-to handyman for many in his community.
For the past eight years, Johnny worked at Boynton Elementary School, where he found a deep passion for helping children. He loved the kids, and they adored him in return always eager to see and help Mr. Johnny with whatever task he was working on that day. His kindhearted spirit and unwavering work ethic left a lasting impact on both the staff and students.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his stepmother, Meryl Mullinax; brother, James Mullinax; and sister, Donna Lewellen. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Danette Mullinax; his daughter, Mindy (Tanner) Waters; his son, Jesse (Maegan) Mullinax; his grandson, Abel Waters; his sisters, Janet Clark and Debbie (Kirk) Davis; his brothers, Jerry Mullinax, Jeffrey Mullinax, and William (Mary Beth) Ryans; and a host of nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory forever.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM, Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Cloud Springs Baptist Church, 210 Cloud Springs Rd, Fort Oglethorpe, GA 30742, followed by a service at 1:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Bill Gardner. Johnny will be laid to rest at Chickamauga Cemetery, with pallbearers Tanner Waters, Steaven Clark, Jason Daverson, Jamie Daverson, Jeffrey Mullinax, William Ryans, and Kirk Davis honoring his legacy.
Johnny will be remembered for his hard work, kindness, and willingness to help anyone in need. His love for family, passion for his work, and devotion to the children of Boynton Elementary will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
