Jonnie Carolyn Miller, 82, of Kirbyville, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on June 5, 1943, in Kirbyville, Texas, to Horace and Faye Elveston. Jonnie lived a life rooted in faith, family, and community service. A proud Lamar University graduate, she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education, graduating summa cum laude, followed by a Master's Degree in Education. Jonnie's passion for education shaped a distinguished career, beginning as a teacher at Hillcrest Elementary in Nederland, Texas, and culminating as Principal of Newton Elementary School.
Her compassionate leadership and commitment to excellence left a lasting impact on students, colleagues, and the educational community.
Beyond the classroom, Jonnie served as Chair of the Newton County Historical Commission, dedicating years to preserving the county's history with diligence and care.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Jonnie is survived by her son, Danny Miller, and daughter-in-law, Jayne Miller, of College Station, Texas; her cherished grandchildren, Jaymes and Danielle Miller; her sisters, Sunnie Bean and Patti Scoggins and her brother, Russell Elveston. She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Faye Elveston, and her beloved husband, Guy Miller.
Jonnie's deep faith in Jesus Christ defined her life. As a devoted member of Watson Chapel in Bleakwood, Texas, she served faithfully as Treasurer, touching countless lives with her kindness and humility.
Jonnie's legacy of love, resilience, and service will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Her warm smile and steadfast dedication to her faith and community will continue to inspire.
A funeral service celebrating Jonnie's life will be held at Adams E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville, Texas, on August 9, 2025, starting with visitation at 10 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Watson Chapel cemetery.
Jonnie's light will forever shine in the lives of her family, friends, and the many individuals blessed by her compassion and faith.
