Jose Manuel "Pepe" Castaneda Resident of Austin, Texas, 73, loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend was called home by our Lord on June 24, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born on June 16th, 1950, to Alfonso and Basilisa Castaneda.
Manuel was a master painter by trade and was a very hard-working man his entire life. His passion for his career as a painter is why he's met so many wonderful people and had many wonderful life experiences along the way. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, having home cooked meals and BBQ, listening to music, and loved to laugh. He always looked forward to taking his annual trips to California where he would visit with his daughter and family.
Though he resided in Austin, Texas, he grew up in Los Angeles, California. He was a die-hard fan of Raiders Football & the LA Dodgers Baseball team as well as his Grandsons #1 Fan. Manuel brought joy, laughter and genuine love to all.
Manuel was preceded in death by his father, Alfonso Castaneda, Sr., and mother, Basilisa Ortiz Castaneda, and siblings Mario Castaneda, Ceasar Castaneda and Alfonso "Cheek" Castaneda, Jr.
He is survived by his daughter Malinda Castaneda (Arnold "Moreno" Barboza, Sr.) and son Daniel Castillo (Karla Castillo). Granddaughters Mickie Gomez (David Gomez), Crystal Vasquez, Grandsons Arnold Barboza, Jr., Oliver Barboza, Daniel Castillo, Jr., and Theo Castillo. Great Granddaughters Bella and Khloe Gomez, and Hailie & Eliana Barboza. Great Grandsons David Gomez Jr, Jayden & Julian Barboza. Surviving siblings are sisters Estella Guardiola and Alicia Castaneda, brothers Jaime Castaneda (Pete Esparza), Javier Castaneda and Guillermo "Memo" Castaneda.
Uncle Pepe will be missed immensely by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, whom he loved dearly. While he may not be with us in body, he is forever with us in spirit. His love remains and we will forever cherish the memories we've made with him along the way.
Family and friends are invited to attend services at Austin - Peel & Son Funeral Home on Friday, July 7, 2023. Visitation is from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, Rosary will begin at 7:00pm.
In loving memory of Manuel, may he find eternal peace and watch over the family until we meet again, you are forever in our hearts.
1 Corinthians 15:57: "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."
Our Father, Who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
