Jose Jesus Chavez Zuniga, age 71 passed away peacefully Thursday, November6, 2025, in Austin. Born on January 30, 1954, in Mexico to Maria and Antonio Chavez, Jose's journey was defined by courage, dedication, and love.
He was a devoted husband to Lourdes Maria Alvarez Hernandez, with whom he shared a beautiful life. Together they created a warm and nurturing home, filled with laughter and cherished memories. Jose had a passion for playing bingo, which often brought joy and excitement to his days.
A testament to resilience and determination, Jose was a hardworking man who arrived in the United States as a teenager, armed only with the clothes on his back. Through relentless effort and unwavering perseverance, he forged a remarkable life for himself and his family, achieving what many would deem impossible through sheer blood, sweat, and tears.
Jose is survived by his loving wife, Lourdes, and his children: Jose Chavez Jr., Beatrice Martinez, Mercedes Orellana, Gesele Orellana, Ever Orellano, and Julio Orellana. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will be carried on by his family. Jose is also survived by four sisters and seven brothers, who have shared countless memories alongside him: Isabel, Irene, Rosario, and Josefina Chavez; and Gumaro, Francisco, Margarito, Carmelo, Claudio, Jorge, and Jerardo Chavez.
A visitation will be held Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 PM with recitation of the Holy Rosary starting at 7:00 PM at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home, 604 Hwy 95 North, Elgin, TX 78621. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, November 14, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 302 W 11th St, Elgin, TX 78621.
As we reflect on Jose's remarkable life, we remember his strength and the lessons he imparted to all of us. *Tus alas estaban listas, pero nuestros corazones no.* His spirit will forever live on in our hearts.
