In Loving memory of Jose Segura, Jr., 73, a kind, generous and good man, passed away peacefully at home, on March 9, 2025, entering his Eternal Rest. Born in San Antonio, Texas, on March 17, 1951, to Jose and Adriana Segura, he was the 6th of 7 children and preceded in death by his siblings Bernabe, Paul, Mary, Lucy, and Secilia and his most beloved son, Miguel Patricio, with whom he shared a birthday. He is survived by his sisters Rosie (Richard) Ochoa and Janie Mata and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe graduated from Harlandale High School and obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Economics from Trinity University. He was a proud employee of AT&T for 35 years where he cultivated many friendships which continue today. His career took him and his family to St. Louis and Dallas where many deep friendships were also made in the community and neighborhood. He completed his work career at AMDOCS where he retired a second time. He would often share the sentiment, "Find something you love to do, and you will never work a day in your life."
He met the love of his life, Diana, at a wedding reception in 1971. He said he immediately knew that she would be his wife and the mother of his children. They shared 50 years of marriage and together raised 4 amazing children, Vanessa (Michael) Hofle, Allegra Segura (Thomas Burks), Jose (Courtney) Segura and Miguel (Jennifer)Segura. Always ready to take that midnight feeding, he said that was his quiet time with his babies when they talked and made plans. He loved them fiercely and was very proud of the kind, loving and hard working individuals they became.
He adored his grandchildren and was accused of becoming a soft touch around them. Mia and Amelia Hofle, Isla and George Burks, Christian and Eleanor Segura, Clara, Amelia and Jae Fueglein all brought joy to his life. He shared many Papa stories with them of his life as a migrant farm worker picking fruits and vegetables, temporarily living in a chicken coop, selling newspapers on the street corners before school, and getting struck by a car, to name a few. All his recollections were told with a sense of adventure, never as negative or sad. There was a lesson to be learned with each experience.
Joe and Diana enjoyed retirement to its fullest. They traveled, cruised with their Card Group, visited with friends and attended the grandchildren's important events - recitals, concerts, competitions and games. Joe loved his entire family and treasured his role as Brother, Uncle and Godfather. He cherished every moment he spent with loved ones.
His love for growing his hibiscus was legendary. He would often text photos of his flowers to everyone and would even give you a young plant of your own saying, "Just water it, it will grow." He also found time to visit Kickapoo and Winstar where he made an occasional donation.
Joe will be remembered as a man of faith, a pillar of gentle strength, a generous spirit and a person who loved deeply. He always championed the underdog and was willing to assist anyone who needed a helping hand. He will be greatly missed. We can honor his legacy by living our life to the fullest, looking out for and loving each other, and by growing a hibiscus - "Just water it, it will grow."
Rest in Peace in the arms of Our Lord

Just learned of Jose's passing. I never met him but I know his wonderful wife Diana and he appears to have been the perfect spouse for her. They are wonderful, kind, loving, accepting people.. the kind of folks we should all aspire to be.
God bless this family.
