Joseph Besterci, 79, of Passaic Park, passed away peacefully at home on Monday December 25th, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Secovská Polianka, Czechoslovakia, Joseph came to the United States on July 15th, 1968, living initially with his grandmother in Passaic. He then married his wife and lived in Clifton before he and his wife purchased their home and started their family in Passaic Park, where they have resided for over fifty years. Prior to retirement, Joseph had been employed as a Textile Mechanic with Mayer Textile in Clifton for 38 years. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Clare RC Church in Clifton and was a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokol.
Joseph was predeceased by his dearly missed parents, Jan and Anna (nee Sabol) Besterci as well as by his dear brother, John Besterci.
He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Anna (nee Bila) Besterci, of Passaic Park; his four loving and devoted children: Joseph Besterci and his wife, Donna, of Belleville, Anna Besterci and her husband, Anthony Paterno, of Wallington, Monika Besterci of Clifton and Martin Besterci and his wife, Mary, of Passaic; three dear sisters: Anna Bohac, Maria Hutkova and Helena Romanova, and many other relatives all of Slovakia; and seven cherished grandchildren: Ashley and her fiancé, Jonathan Horvaht, Emilee, Jaccob, Connor, Anthony, Amanda, Adrian, and his nieces and nephew.
Joseph was a hard-working man who enjoyed the simple things in life. One of his proudest moments was becoming a United States citizen. He enjoyed a good glass of red wine, watching the food network, travel channel, reading his daily newspaper, taking walks, playing Rummikub, and attending his loved one's sporting events. You could find him at the kitchen table trying to win big for his family with scratch offs. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, and proud Dzedo. Joseph will never be forgotten, and his legacy will live on with his family, friends, and every person he has touched with his kindness, love, and generosity.
Visiting will be Friday from 3-7pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Funeral Saturday 9:15am from the funeral home and 10:00am at St. Clare RC Church, 69 Allwood Road, Clifton. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Saddle Brook. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org), 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 would be appreciated.
