Joseph D. Browne died at age 91 after a life filled with contributions to his family, his friends, his community and his church. He will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and genuine friendship to all.
Joe was born in Pottstown, PA to the late Charles and Mary (Titzer) Browne. He attended St. Aloysius Parish School and graduated from Pottstown High School in 1950. He was a life-long member of St. Aloysius Church, served in many volunteer activities for the church and strongly supported the parish school.
Joe was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Transportation Corps in Italy during the 1953-55 period. Upon return, he attended Drexel Institute of Technology in Philadelphia, graduating in 1960 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He also attended graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania from 1960-62. As a co-op student while at Drexel, he worked for GE Aerospace and continued working for them after graduation both in Philadelphia and at King of Prussia until his retirement in 1993. His work at GE involved many exciting space projects including work on the Apollo lunar mission and many early satellite constellations.
Joe was a member of the GE ELFUN Society, the Pottstown Optimist Club, the Friends of the Pottstown Library, the Pottstown Historical Society, and the American Legion. He was a Habitat of Humanity volunteer helping to rehab houses in Pottstown. Joe was a supporter of the Steel River Playhouse in its formative days and supported and attended various activities at the Tri-County Active Adult Center in Pottstown. He was presented with a Citizenship Award from the Pottstown Elks in 2011 and was named the first recipient of the St. Aloysius Legacy of Philanthropy award in 2016.
He is survived by sister Bernice A. Kish, Columbia, MD, and brothers Paul D. Browne, Las Cruces, NM, and John C. Browne, Ivins, UT. He was pre-deceased by a sister M. Rita Bealer, Pottstown. He had many nephews and nieces who fondly remember him as "Uncle Joe".
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024 in St. Aloysius Gathering Center, from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m. Mass will be at 11 a.m. in St. Aloysius Church.
Inurnment will follow in St. Aloysius OLD Cemetery.

Joe Browne was the most generous and thoughtful man I've ever met. He was a wonderful help to me when I ran for Pottstown Mayer, and encouraged me to be an active member in the Senior Groups (Spanish classes, History and other groups.) He was extremely generous to St. Aloysius Church/School, and will be remembered for years to come. He was well loved and respected by many.
