(Chief) Joseph Scott Colby passed peacefully into the arms of the Universe on November 14 after a ten year battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Joe lead an incredible life. He served his country for 20 years in the United States Air Force. Earning numerous awards, commendations and the Rank Of Chief Master Sergeant. After his retirement, at the age of thirty-eight, Joe went on to have another career as a groundskeeper working at both Bluff Point and the Barracks golf courses.
Joe loved to take walks and hike his mountain. He also loved his family beyond measure. It was this love of family that got him through many hard times.
At 34 Joe was in a horrible motorcycle accident. This accident came close to ending his life and could have left him in a wheelchair. Joe refused to be beaten by what had been done to his life. Every time he was told he couldn't do something He told the doctors not to bet against him. 18 months after the accident Joe not only walked, but he also passed his personal fitness test to stay in the Air Force.
Later when Joe became a grandfather he could often be found playing with his grandchildren or picking blueberries with them at the family home in Keeseville.
Joe will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. But we are all so very grateful that he is free and with Dorothy once again.
Left to remember and cherish his memory are his children Lora and Scott Barshow, Richard and Dawn Colby, grandchildren Christopher Kraft, Joseph Barshow, Samantha Colby and his siblings Fran and Jean Colby, Leanard and Ruth Colby, Brian and Lisa Colby, Glen and Lucy Colby, Amy and Chet Shalton, and Ken Joy.
Joe was greeted on the other side of veil by his lovely bride of 54 years Dorothy, his parents Dora and David Barse, Richard (Glen) and Dorothy (Dot) Colby, his sister Nor Joy his brothers Bradford, Keith And Richard (Dick) Colby and his Grandsons Seth Colby and Tyler Barshow.
A celebration of his amazing life will be held in the summer 2025.
