Joseph R. DeVarney

SHIRLEY: Joseph R. DeVarney, 74 of Shirley, died Friday, May 27, 2022 at his home following a lengthy illness.
His wife, Phyllis J. (Holmes) DeVarney died in September 2015.
Joe was born in Ayer, February 28, 1948 a son of Joseph I. and Rita E. (Bond) DeVarney and was a long-time Shirley resident. Joe worked many years as a truck driver for Digital Equipment Corporation.
He leaves two daughters, Kim L. Shorey and her significant other Dennis Collins of Bedford, NH, Karen L. Shorey and her husband, Larry of Shirley; his brother, Ronald DeVarney and his wife Leslie; two grandchildren, Derek Shorey and his significant other Misty Tuttle, Brittani Reeves and her husband Ethan; four great grandchildren, Chase Shorey, Hadley Reeves, Aidan Reeves and Alexis Cuestas. Joe was also survived by two brother-in-laws, Mitch Holmes and Charles Brindle in addition to two sister-in-laws, Sandra Holmes O'Connor and Gloria DeVarney. He also leaves his very special cousin whom he adored, Linda Saball along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was the brother of the late Rose Marie Nizinski and Edward J. DeVarney.
A graveside service will be held 11 am Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at Village Cemetery, Shirley.
