Joseph Gillespie, age 76, of Nokomis, FL, passed away suddenly on April 14, 2024. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Dr. Richard and Ann Gillespie on July 13, 1947, and retired to Nokomis, moving from Breezy Point, NY. Joe attended Wheeling College in Wheeling, WV. He retired as Senior Court Officer from the New York State Court system after 25 years.
Joe loved all sports, gardening, building, and fishing. He enjoyed time outdoors sitting around a campfire and watching the sunset. His favorite indoor activity was watching the weather channel.
Joe is survived by his wife Mary (nee O'Day), sister Debra Gavilaines and her husband Raul. He was brother-in-law to many and the beloved uncle to 23 nieces and nephews whom he loved above and beyond. He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Gillespie.
A memorial service will be held in Breezy Point, NY on August 10, 2024, 11 AM, at St. Thomas More Church.

Mary, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. We loved Joe very much -- knew him since he was a baby and had great times with him and his family, in Brooklyn, Breezy, and Tannersville. And we love you too, especially because you were so good to Aunt Ann for so many years.
We go to North Fort Myers every winter and would be very happy to catch up with you and Debbie.

Mary, very sorry to hear about Joe. Glad you were able to get away from the NY weather for awhile. We went through some tough times together. He was a good man. Rich and Peggy McNally.
