Joseph Michael Glancy, affectionately known as Mike to his friends and family, passed away on October 31, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on July 6, 1952, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, he was a lifelong resident of the area, and his presence was a constant source of laughter and companionship to those around him. Mike's final days were spent in
Westland, Michigan, where he continued to share his humor and warmth with all who knew him.
Preceded in death by his loving parents, Ernest and Anna Glancy, Mike's memory is cherished by his brother, Brian (Geniene) Glancy, his niece Brittany (Jonathan), and his nephew Jared. His family remembers him as a beacon of light, always ready with a joke and a smile, and his absence will leave a void that can never be filled.
Mike graduated from Wayne Memorial High School in 1970, where he was a proud member of the football team. His talents extended beyond the gridiron, as he excelled in mechanical and architectural drafting. This skill set paved the way for his successful career in the automotive industry, furthered by his education at the Henry Ford Tech Center. His work ethic and dedication to his craft were evident to all who worked alongside him.
A man of diverse interests, Mike was a true sports enthusiast. He could often be found cheering on his favorite college football teams and following the major league baseball season with keen interest. His passion for motor sports was unmatched; from drag racing and NASCAR to street rods, Mike's enthusiasm was contagious, and his knowledge of the sport was encyclopedic.
Mike's love for music was just as profound. An avid audiophile, he relished attending live rock and blues concerts. He was a devoted fan of Joe Cocker, and his music collection was a testament to his wide-ranging appreciation for the art. Mike's presence was a staple at Tiger Stadium, where he enjoyed the thrills of the game and the camaraderie of fellow fans.
Beyond sports and music, Mike had a special place in his heart for his cat, Nutter Butter, who was a constant companion and source of joy in his life. His neighbors fondly recall how Mike would engage in friendly conversation and share a laugh with everyone he met. His ability to connect with people was a hallmark of his friendly nature.
Those who knew Mike best would describe him as funny and friendly-a man who could light up a room with his humor and whose friendliness knew no bounds. His legacy of kindness and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
