CONWAY, NC – Joseph "Joey" Clarence Hedspeth, III, age 54, of Phillips Hill Rd. passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at his home.
Joey was born in
Emporia, Virginia on December 15, 1968 to Mr. Joseph Clarence Hedspeth, Jr. and Mrs. Hilda Hedspeth Edwards. Joey graduated from Franklin High School and went on to attend Chowan University. During his career with Union, he was a dedicated boilermaker who traveled extensively around the United States, wherever the mission took him.
Joey enjoyed the outdoors and found simple pleasures in fishing and hunting. His other hobbies included his love of Motorsports like racing and collecting cars worthy of being restored. Joey was tremendously proud of his family's legacy in
Conway, North Carolina, as reflected by a street named after his grandfather. He was involved in the ownership and preservation of buildings and structures in the town, some of which were built by his grandfather "Mossie". His untimely passing has left an enormous void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
To be around Joey was to feel the warmth and joy he brought to everyone he met. He was a giver, gladly assisting anyone who asked for his help. Joey cherished his family. He had a deep and abiding love for each and every one of them. He maintained frequent contact with his mother, brother, nephews, and niece, never taking those opportunities to connect, for granted. He was a devoted and doting father to his one and only child, Joseph. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, and the memories he left behind will be forever treasured by those who revered him most. Joey was dearly loved by his family, and our hearts are broken by the revelation of his passing. He left an indelible imprint on many people's lives, and his absence will be difficult to bear.
Joey is preceded in death by his father Joseph Clarence Hedspeth Jr., his paternal grandparents, Joseph "Mossie" Clarence Hedspeth, Sr. and Ira Nelle Woodard Hedspeth, his maternal grandparents, George Thomas Babb and Jane Ellen Turner Babb.
