Montpelier, VT
Joseph Jay, formerly of Berlin Street and most recently of Barre Gardens, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, after a short period of declining health.
He was born on December 4, 1933, the son of Harry and Hazel (Start) Jay in Morrisville, VT
He attended Public Schools in Northfield and Montpelier, where he received his high school diploma.
Joseph worked as a custodian, primarily for Fletcher Allen Medical Center, before retiring in 1998
Joseph enjoyed cars, but for the last twenty years, his primary mode of transportation has been bicycling. He was incredibly proud that he could ride this past summer at 90 and only recently stopped riding from Montpelier to Northfield. He held an amazing amount of information about antique cars and enjoyed annual visits to antique car shows. He enjoyed architecture and shared his knowledge and interests with others. Joe lived as a person of great faith and kindness and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
Joseph is predeceased by his parents, his brothers Harry and Donald. He is survived by his sister, Gloria Jay, of Montpelier, his niece, Susan Fales, and two grand-nephews, of Maine.
Joseph's remains will be interred privately in his family's lot at Mount Hope Cemetery in Northfield, VT.
