Joseph M. Lanatovich I, 56, of Smithton, formerly of Derry, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born April 30, 1969, in Pittsburgh and raised in Bloomfield, he was the son of the late Joseph L. Lanatovich and Audrey D. (Hilliard) Lanatovich.
Joe was a man of great faithfulness and was a member of St. Joseph Church, Derry. A true entrepreneur, he was the owner and operator of Rideman Transportation, LLC, and J. &. J. Contractors. Throughout his career, he also served as a Captain with the Fayette County Housing Police Force and as a guard at the Westmoreland County Prison. Joe was a proud member of LaMonte Lodge No. 568, F. & A.M., Derry. Known for his larger-than-life personality, he loved deeply, gave selflessly, and lived with a quiet strength.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph M. Lanatovich II; a sister, Bonnie Sue Miller; his father-in-law, John Wayne Thompson; and a brother-in-law, Shawn Thompson.
Joe is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kimberly A. (Thompson) Lanatovich of Smithton; one son, Jacob D. Lanatovich of Latrobe; one sister, Kimberly Krupa of Latrobe; his mother-in-law, Joan Thompson; a brother-in-law, Dennis Miller; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and beloved pets, especially Blizzard.
Family and friends will be received from 10 AM to 1 PM Friday, August 8, 2025, at the Lopatich-Brinker Funeral Home, LLC, 601 Weldon Street, Latrobe. Members of LaMonte Lodge No. 568, F. & A.M., will conduct a Masonic funeral service at 12:30 PM Friday in the funeral home. A funeral liturgy will be held at 1 PM Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Salvatore Lamendola officiating.
