Joseph L. Niedzwiecki, 89, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023, at Sunrise Senior Living in Bridgewater. Born and raised in New York City, he lived in Fanwood for over 60 years. He liked to say he lived in the East Village of Manhattan long before it was hip and trendy.
Joseph graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1951. He received a full scholarship to Cornell University, however he transferred to New York University following the death of his father in 1952. He graduated from NYU in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He was hired by Esso Research and Engineer Company (now ExxonMobil) right after graduation in 1956, where he worked continuously for over 50 years. He attended graduate school at night while working full time and received a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from Newark College of Engineering (now known as New Jersey Technical Institute) in 1966.
Joseph was the son of Joseph W. Niedzwiecki and Theodora (Pakush) Niedzwiecki Balash. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Beth Niedzwiecki, who died in 2021. He is survived by his sons Joseph (Debra), Adam, Otto John, and Robert; his daughter, Elizabeth Hogan (Michael); and his grandson, Andrew Mitchell.
