Joseph Pereira Obituary

Published by Standard-Times on May 31, 2007.
FAIRHAVEN — Joseph A. Pereira, age 57, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at home after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. He will be sadly missed by his girls — devoted wife of 37 years, Carol (Slowik) Pereira, and his daughters, Kenzie and Casey.

He was born in Anelhe, Portugal, a son of the late Antonio and Anna (Calvao) Pereira. He is survived by a brother, Manny Pereira and wife Alice; a sister, Dusty (Pereira) Cardoso and husband Roy. He was raised in New Bedford and served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Pereira resided most of his life with his family in sunny South Florida.

In Florida, his natural talent with his hands and mind shown through as a general contractor for longer term employers, Summit Builders and DiTocco Construction. He also realized his love for the game of golf, the relaxation the outdoors could bring, and the pure enjoyment brought by watching his girls grow up to be the women they are today.

His family was always his greatest enjoyment. He was extremely proud of his Portuguese heritage.

Lovingly, he leaves nephews, Michael and Todd Pereira and Randy Cardoso; niece, Stacey (Cardoso) Gaspar; godson, Jaymie Monteiro; brother-in-law, Raymond Slowik; sisters-in-law, Robin (Slowik) Claflin and Tina (Slowik) LaFountain; and most dear mother-in-law, Doris (St. Pierre) Slowik.

His roots had brought him back to New England, living here the past four years; all of his family is now together. Just before being diagnosed, he was employed by Pinncon Construction.

The family sends much thanks and gratitude to them for their constant support and generosity.

His funeral service will be Saturday, June 2, 2007 at 9:00 AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME of MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at FAIRLAWN, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Mary's Church, Main Street, Fairhaven. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours will be Friday from 5-9 PM. Burial will be private.

Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701. For online registration and directions www.waring-sullivan.com.

Daddy....
Today is even a little harder then every other day. I can't tell you how much we all miss you. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about you and wish you were here with us (even though you made me mad a lot :):)
Don't worry though, I know someday we will be together again. You better be waiting for me, with open arms (lets just hope its not to soon;) I love you so much and hope you're doing great wherever you may be!! Keep being my angel.

My father...we are going on two years missing you and it still feels like last week that I was hugging you. I know that where ever you are ~ you must be missing us. Even if it's right over my shoulder you are standing. And I know that only you know what we have to expect when we see you again and that you wish you could share that with us now. But, we are not meant to understand that yet. Someday...we will be with you. Until than, please know that there isn't a moment I want you away from us. And I hope that all the things I think and say now that I wished I would have said than ~ or known to you. I love you with all my being Daddy.
Your Anna always,
Kenzie
