Joseph James Ponce, 48, of La Junta, Colorado unexpectedly passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025 at his La Junta, home. He was born June 26, 1977 in La Junta to Joe & Phyllis (Gonzales) Ponce.
A proud graduate of Swink High School, and then attended CSU Pueblo, Joseph was not only industrious but also generous with his time and energy, always willing to help others. His fun and outgoing personality attracted many friends, and he easily connected with those around him, leaving a lasting impression wherever he went.
Joseph had a deep love for the outdoors. He loved going camping and other outdoor activities which brought him peace. Additionally, he relished the moments spent playing poker with friends and family, showing his fun-loving spirit & connection in social settings. Family gatherings were a highlight of his life, where he found immense joy in spending time with his loved ones. Joseph also enjoyed listing to all different types of music. Joseph was an avid sports fan, passionately supporting the Raiders, and sharing in the excitement of their games with fellow friends & fans.
Joseph is survived by his father, Joe (Ruby) Ponce of Swink, CO; siblings, Erica Abernathy, Robert Jaramillo, Misty (Cory) Ponce, and Cynthia Jaramillo; aunts & uncles, Ralph (Cathy) Ponce, Sam (Ruby) Ponce, and Frances Castaneda; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, & close friends also survive. He is preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Gonzales; paternal grandparents, Ralph (Juanita) Ponce, & maternal grandparents, Chris (Eloina) Gonzales.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m.; both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St Patrick Parish with Father Joseph Matitu Officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery.
