Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory - La JuntaJeanne Marie McAllister, 72, of Colorado Springs, CO, formerly of La Junta, CO, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025 in Colorado Springs. She was born Monday, March 21, 1953 in La Junta to Charles Bernard “Barney” and Ruth Mary (Dick) Malott.
Jeanne grew up on her family's farm outside of Swink, CO. She graduated from Swink High School in 1971, then attended Otero Junior College, where she earned her Associate Degree in Nursing. She was first certified as a Licensed Practical Nurse and later advanced to become a Registered Nurse.
Nursing was Jeanne's passion. She devoted her career to caring for others, including working as a pediatric nurse for Dr. Charles Greeb and as an orthopedic nurse for Dr. Rudolf Hofmann. Many will likely remember Jeanne most as "Dr. Hofmann's nurse." After moving away from La Junta, she continued her calling as a pediatric nurse in Garden City, KS, and as a home health nurse in Greeley, CO. Her nursing career culminated with her work as a hospice nurse at Porter Hospice at the Johnson Center in Centennial, CO, where she found deep meaning in helping people through their final journey in life.
Jeanne was an enthusiastic sports fan, particularly when it came to basketball and football. When she could, she treasured watching Denver Nuggets basketball in person. In her later years, Jeanne found joy in indoor gardening and cherished her two doggie companions, Avery first and then Teagan.
Jeanne is survived by her son Brian (Kristin) McAllister of Colorado Springs, CO; granddaughter Claire McAllister of Lincoln, NE; and siblings Emily White of Casa Grande, AZ and Ted (Debbie) Malott of La Junta, CO. Numerous nieces, nephews and other family also survive as well as her special dog Teagan. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law Richard “Rick” White, and her beloved dog Avery.
Graveside Service will be held Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. at Valley View Cemetery in Rocky Ford, CO with Rev. Jen Shadel officiating.
Family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the National Mill Dog Rescue in Peyton, CO.
