It is with great sadness that we would like to announce the passing of Joseph R. Takach of Jackson, N.J. (Note: I put this in because that is the location of the convalescent center).
Mr. Takach was born in Passaic, N.J. in October of 1942 but was raised in Elmwood Park, N.J. He attended Pope Pius High School in Passaic, N.J., graduating in 1960, spent some time at Syracuse University, ultimately receiving a Bachelor of Science from Monmouth College. He went on to serve in Vietnam as a Military Polilceman (MP) and received an honorable discharge. After the army, he held various jobs in business and sales, working with the Progressive Brick Company in Hasbrouck Heights for almost 30 years until 2013. That job often required large amounts of time on the road, driving to various locations in New York City, Upstate New York, and long island. After that, he found a job as a crossing guard for the the Township of Saddle Brook. In his later years, he genuinely looked forward to working in this position, as it was helping the community.
Throughout his life, Joseph was especially dedicated to his family, including his wife of almost 41 years, Christine Takach (nee Klapko, 71) of Lavalette, N.J., Nicolette Takach (29), also of Lavalette, N.J., and his son, Joseph A. Takach (39) of Garfield, N.J. He always took great care to ensure that his family and especially his children were happy and successful. He loved the Jersey Shore, so much in fact that he spent almost every summer at the beach that he could remember. He often visited Belmar and Sea Girt in his younger years, and the Jersey Shore is where he met his future wife, Christine. He was also an avid New York Giants and New York Yankees fan, and he often looked forward to watch and attending many games. He also loved his cats, Midnight and Millie.
He was raised in Elmwood Park and he moved back in the late 1970s, raising his family there before relocating to Saddle Brook, Lavalette, and finally, Jackson.
Viewing hours are on Tuesday, February 25 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Patrick J. Conte Funeral Home, 274 Market Street, Elmwood Park, N.J. The funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, February 26 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel, located at the address of 96 1st Street, Passaic, N.J. 07055 and internment will be followed at St. Michael's Cemetary in South Hackensack, N.J.
