WENHAM - Joseph R. Trupiano, 88, of Wenham, formerly of Gloucester, passed away Monday morning, July 17, 2023 at Salem Hospital. He was the husband of the late Ann D. (Vickery) Trupiano. Born in St. Louis, MO to the late Anthony and Florence (Parisi) Trupiano. Joseph was educated and graduated high school in St. Louis. He continued his education by attending Bentley College in Waltham, where he graduated with highest honors in Business Administration.
He was the owner and operator of his family's business, Trupiano's Superette, which opened in 1950 in Gloucester. Joseph ran his family business until the mid-1990's and his store was well known in the area for their "Famous Trupiano's Sausage."
Joseph was a talented singer throughout his life and loved music. He was a cantor for many years at St. Anns Church and St. Joseph Chapel in Gloucester. He was also a member of the church choir. In 1953, he became the lead singer for the Starlighter's Band and later in life, he enjoyed singing with the Barber Shop Quartet and the Manchester Singers. Joseph was also a skilled accompanist, playing the piano and organ. When not singing, Joseph could be found playing tennis at the Manchester Athletic Club.
Joseph married the love of his life Ann in 1956, together they instilled the importance of family and traditions. He enjoyed being the Patriarch of his family and was proud of all the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. Joseph was named "Great Papa" to his great grandchildren and cherished seeing them often and watching them grow up. He will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew him.
Joseph is survived by his son, Anthony Trupiano and his wife Joyce of Gloucester; his daughter-in-law, Sheila Trupiano of Gloucester; five grandchildren, Lynne Sens and her husband Eric of MS, Anthony Trupiano Jr. and his wife Amanda of Gloucester, Elizabeth Giacalone and her husband Christopher of Gloucester, Joseph Schjetne and his husband Mat of CA and Michelle Teel and her husband Nathan of Gloucester and nine great grandchildren, Sean, Michael, Hayden, Gabriella, Christopher, Mariana, Olivia, August and Tristan. How you will be missed, dearest Uncle Joe. I remember how sweetly you sang at church, and I remember seeing you play Captain Von Trapp in the Sound of Music when I was five years old! You are the reason I became a singer. I always admired your patience and sweet, kind heart. Rest in eternal peace with your dear Ann, and give my Dad a hug for me!
