The world lost exactly what it needs so much more of, as Joe Vento died on July 29, 2025. A calm within the storm, a big soft hug anytime one is needed, a call just to say “I love you”.
Joe lived almost his whole life in Weymouth, MA, and is survived by his wife and absolute best friend Theresa Vento; their four children Jillian Vento-Feldman, Ashley Vento, Joey Vento, and Samantha Vento; his children’s beloved spouses Allison Vento-Feldman, Meredith Vento, Bekah Sharpe, and Lauren Vento; and his grand babies Julian, Levi, Minna, Finn, Tilly, Lilah, Theo, and Rhys; his siblings Judy Vento Petzold and James Vento; preceded by his sister Cathy Vento. He also leaves behind countless old friends, a huge and loving extended family, and likely lives on in the memory of folks he’s never met, because of how much his kids and his wife talk about him.
Joe was one of the softest and gentlest men to walk this earth. His warmth and affection was his foremost quality. He just wanted to love and show love, to everyone who came into his life. Whether it was directly in his own path, or anyone any of his children ever cared even an ounce for. He would match it. No questions asked. And it was real. He was generous, and selfless.
Joe was an incredible loving husband to Terri, and they were two peas in a pod, making each other laugh and genuinely loving each other’s company for 46 years (43 of those married). Their love has deeply inspired their children who love them endlessly, and who have brought them 8 grandchildren, who will miss their Grampa so very much. Terri and Joe were truly put on this earth to be Nanny and Grampa.
Along with his steadfast love for his family, Joe also loved sports - especially the Celtics, and would watch replays of old games just to be in awe of Larry Bird all over again. He loved music, which he filled our home with and had a secret knack for, and could play just about anything by ear on his kids’ toy keyboard back in the day.
Joe appreciated the small things, like a bird song (which he could mimic exactly), getting new plants for the yard or the porch to make things feel nice, an excellent dew point, having a good laugh, or a rainbow. He will be remembered for his sweet smile, big belly laughs, and his goofy sense of humor.
To honor his memory, love your friends and family, tell them every single day without reservation, and notice the small things that show how simple and beautiful life can be. And when you notice, share that with someone so you can notice it together. That is exactly what Joe would have done.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visitation for Joe on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 from 4-7pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA 02190. Friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:45am Wednesday morning for a Funeral Service which will begin promptly at 10am. Cremation will follow and Joe will be interred at a later date in the Fairmount Cemetery in Weymouth.
