Joseph M. "Joe" Welty, 87, of Carlinville, IL, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.
Joseph was born August 22, 1937, in St. Louis, MO, the son of Ignatius and Anna Mae (Young) Welty. Joseph graduated from McKinley High School in 1955. In 1961 he married Marilyn Murphy in St. Louis, MO. She preceded him in death in 2017.
Joseph was a decorated veteran, having served our country for 30 years in the US Air Force, attaining the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Every new assignment was an opportunity for an adventure! He loved his family, going on road trips, big band music and classic cars. He was a devout Christian who lived out his faith daily.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 1 great granddaughter, and two siblings.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Friday May 23, 2025, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Carlinville, IL, led by Reverend Cliff Woodman.
Burial will take place in Ft. Bayard National Cemetery, Santa Clara, NM.
Joseph is survived by his children Brian (Kess) Welty of Denver, CO, Jill (Tim) Eastep of Silver City, NM and Jay (Debbie) Welty of Phoenix, AZ, 4 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, brother David Welty of St. Clair, MO and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his fiancé, Ruth Mayo of Carlinville, IL, her children Lori (Matthew) Palsen of Carlinville, IL, Larry (Deborah) Mayo of Columbus, OH, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church.
