Joshua Holander passed away in New York City on November 29. 2023. He died from complications following a very serious burn accident. He was 72.
During his life, Joshua was fortunate to have lived and worked around the world. Born in Hadera, Israel on October 8, 1951, his father Henrich Hollander, a Holocaust survivor, was from the Czech Republic and his mother Ester Dorohonchono was from Dorohoi, Romania.
Joshua came from humble beginnings and was determined to create a better life. Equipped with an entrepreneurial mindset, he joined the workforce as soon as he could, finding a home in the fashion world in Berlin. where he opened a boutique and later got involved in acting and modeling. For many years he modeled across the globe and then went into management, running international model agencies in Asia. Later, back in the States, he became a consultant and fashion stylist to a growing number of discerning clients.
Tenacious, intuitive, outgoing, good-humored and compassionate, Joshua built businesses and relationships wherever he went. Berlin, Taiwan, Japan, Atlanta, Aiken and Manhattan were just some of his stomping grounds. He was equally passionate about his homeland as his adopted hometowns in America.
He is survived by his sister Yafa Rapaport, brother Yehuda Hollander, many nieces and nephews, among them Adi Hollander with whom he had a special bond, as well as his long-time friend, William Berrie, and his dog Max.
The funeral service will be held Friday morning, December 8th at 10 o’clock from the graveside in Sons of Israel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org) or the ASPCA (ASPCA.org).
