Joshua Kelly Holt, 43, of
Orem, Utah, passed away on January 4, 2024. Born on March 27, 1981, in Provo, Utah, Joshua was the beloved son of Kelly Butler Holt and Janese Richardson.
As a child, Josh learned to enjoy the outdoors with his parents and sister JenaLe. He earned the Eagle Scout award and later graduated from Orem High School in 1999. Soon after, he served an honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Japan Kobe and Nagoya missions, a time that had significant impact on his character and testimony. Following his mission, he earned a bachelor's degree in Outdoor Recreation from Utah Valley University and later completed his P.O.S.T certification at the start of his career in Law Enforcement.
On September 28, 2007, Josh married Amy Rose Vogtman, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together, they had two children: Hannah Rose and Andrew Joshua. Josh enjoyed spending time with his family. He was always up for an adventure and loved taking the kids fishing, camping and planning fun day trips and family vacations. Josh's love for his wife and children was unwavering, and his family was his top priority. He loved Amy and let her be herself so if she wanted to read a book while he fished, that was o.k. with him. Whenever possible, he attended every kids doctor appointment, school activity and sporting or dance event that he could. He spent many hours practicing various sports out in the yard and at the batting cages with his children. This year he was so excited to have the ability to be the assistant coach for Hannah's soccer team and was looking forward to the spring season. He was so proud of the people his children were becoming and did his best to help them learn and grow.
For 17 years, Josh was a Ranger for Utah State Parks and Recreation, where he found fulfillment in his roles that included both law enforcement and management. He began his career at Sand Hollow State Park and has spent the last 11 years at Utah Lake State Park serving as the park manager for the last six years. His work was marked by a deep sense of responsibility, commitment, and pride, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the many rangers he worked with. He never hesitated to respond to a search and rescue call-even when he was off-duty.
Josh was the go-to fix-it guy for friends and family. He loved to tinker and was always ready to lend a hand-whether it was fixing a broken car, helping with home repairs, or volunteering his time to a cause. A passionate Philadelphia Eagles fan, Josh was loyal to his team in the good and bad years (and there were a lot of bad years).
Josh was kind, loyal, compassionate, and known for his strong work ethic. He worked hard and played hard, always putting family and friends first. His sense of responsibility, instilled from a young age, guided him in every aspect of his life. Josh dedicated himself to goodness, to his faith, and to being there for the people he loved.
Josh is survived by his loving wife, Amy, and their children, Hannah and Andrew; his parents, Kelly and Janese; his sister, JenaLe; and numerous extended family members who cherished him dearly.
