Joy McCallie passed away on July 27, 2024, while visiting with family, in Galion, OH. She was born on September 24, 1952 in Cleveland, OH, to Mary Russ and the late Stanley Russ. Joy was a beacon of light and warmth to all she met.
Joy was a cherished member of the Russ & McCallie families. She is survived by her beloved husband & high school sweetheart, Edward McCallie; her mother Mary Russ; siblings Fay Spanos, Jeannie Mitchell, Neil Russ, and Dean Russ (wife, Linda Zahrndt); her children Brian McCallie (wife, Dawn), and Jason McCallie – as well as her grand-daughters Sydney McCallie and Samantha McCallie, and many loving nieces and nephews. All remembered her as a nurturing soul, always thinking of others first, and spreading kindness and compassion to all she met.
Joy was a graduate of Brookside High School in Sheffield Lake, OH. She had an appreciation for the arts and sciences; she was gifted at drawings, and other forms of artwork. She dedicated her life to caring for her family, and serving others; she selflessly gave all, with unconditional love.
Joy's favorite place to be was surrounded by family and friends. She loved playing all types of games, and made sure she always had one handy. Joy had the amazing ability to make everyone's spirit brighter when they were around her. Her radiant smile and beautiful laugh were contagious, and she brought a fun and happy air to every room she entered.
Joy was an avid Cleveland and Ohio sports fan; she was regularly glued to the TV to watch her Cavaliers, Indians, Browns and Buckeyes. She had a huge appreciation for the game of basketball, and reveled in the Cavs NBA Championship in 2016. She regularly found herself staying up late to watch west coast NBA games. She also enjoyed watching her sons and grandchildren's sporting events. She was a boisterous cheerleader in good times, and a warm, consoling voice through rocky roads.
