Joy Ann Turner, age 89, of Savannah, Tenn., went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Trinity Place in Columbus, MS. She was with her daughter-in-law as she entered heaven’s gates listening to the hymn “Be Thou My Vision”.

She was born on Oct. 28, 1934, in Hardin County, the daughter of the late William Dayton Harrison and Harriet Lois Hanna Harrison. Joy spent most of her years in Savannah. She was a dedicated member of First United Methodist Church, where she served as a member of the chancel choir and was the church treasurer. She was also a member of the Tennessee Business & Professional Women’s organization. She worked in accounting at the Metropolitan Nashville Health Dept. and retired as a secretary at PCA in Counce, TN.

She loved her church, family and friends. Her love was shown to those around her by acts of service. She was an excellent cook and could prepare a table spread of food that was devoured and enjoyed my many. She was extremely intelligent and organized. The importance of correct grammar and good posture left a lasting impression. Most of all, she was known for her strength and perseverance. Despite encountering many trials throughout her lifetime, including the passing of her mother as a child, she did not waiver in her faith in God. This is her legacy.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Ellen Turner Martin; granddaughter, Margo Turner Allgood (John Hunter); grandson, John Ross Turner (Megan); granddaughter, Michelle Ann Turner; great-granddaughters, Ellen and Margaret Allgood; great-grandsons, William, Benjamin, and Henry Turner.

She is proceeded in death by her husband, Billy Enlow Turner; son, William Michael Turner; grandson, William Michael Turner, Jr.; great-grandson, William Hunter Allgood; sister, Nell Riley; and brother, William Dayton Harrison, Jr.
