J.E. Blackwelder Obituary

Visit the Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah website to view the full obituary.
J.E. "Tuff" Blackwelder was born October 5th, 1933, son of Tony and Daisy Meadows
Blackwelder. On October 5th 1961, he married Elizabeth Hosea who survives. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957 and was stationed in Alaska.
He was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church and loved to sing. He sang with many Gospel Groups over his lifetime, traveling many miles around the area, and enjoyed every minute of it. He was also a Mason.
He worked many different jobs over the years: plumbing, steel mill, and the city water department. He retired from Southgate Supply, a plumbing and electrical supply store. He went back to work for the Hardin County Solid Waste Department where he finished his career.
J.E. was known for his can-do attitude, in his day-to-day life, and as a woodworker. His generosity was boundless; he was quick to help whoever he could in any way he could.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth; one brother, Dan Blackwelder; sisters-in-law Amanda Sue Hosea, Juanita Blackwelder, and Betty Blackwelder; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Vaughn T., Bert, Bernice, Hugh, Tommy, and James "Peck"; three sisters, Margaret Northcutt, Emogene Polk, and Sarah Evans; brother-in-law, Bill Hosea; and his sister-in-law and buddy, Janice Hosea.
